For generations, a rustic alpine hut has stood out in a small woodland clearing in the Waidringer hiking area. Back when Cornelia, the hostess, was still a little girl, the Talsenalm was a popular destination for day trips. After a long walk through the woods, the very best biscuit sticks were served as a treat at the "Tois".
Hundreds of years ago, the Talsenalm was painstakingly built and developed by hand. With a great deal of craftsmanship and dedication, we have restored this ageing gem to its former glory. The historic self-catering hut – Talsenalm in Waidring – is a special retreat for nature lovers. It is not just its secluded location in a forest clearing at just over 1,000 metres above sea level that makes it such a special place to visit. The lovingly furnished mountain hut on the edge of the forest is sure to win you over too.
The hosts, Roland and Cornelia Defrancesco, are renovating the historic alpine hut with great care, using natural materials and traditional craftsmanship. The alpine hut has remained in its original condition since 1928, which is why we are committed to a gentle and sustainable renovation. From summer 2021, for the first time, there will be electricity at the Talsenalm, which is generated exclusively from solar energy . Spread over two storeys, the hut boasts a spacious living area and a wood-burning stove for your mountain holiday in Austria. This makes the Wald Habitat particularly well-suited for hire for a holiday with family and friends. On the spacious veranda, you can enjoy the magnificent natural surroundings of this retreat and the fresh mountain air with all your senses. So what could be more relaxing than listening to the sounds of the trees and animals in the forest whilst taking in a picture-perfect view of the Loferer Steinberge and the Chiemgau Alps?

In the background, the surrounding mountain peaks of the Loferer Steinberge shine out, stretching as far as the southern peak of the Watzmann. | - A car with higher ground clearance is an advantage – lower-slung vehicles may easily bottom out on the forest track.The centre of Waidring is about an hour’s walk away, but you’ll have more flexibility if you travel by car. |
| + Plenty of space: over 100 square metres of living space spread over two floors, four bedrooms and ten cosy sleeping places, a picturesque little parlour, as well as a large play area with a hammock in the trees and streams perfect for building dams are a particular highlight. | - Pure nature: Numerous forest animals live around the Talsenalm – including red deer, roe deer, game birds and small game. Mice may also occasionally find their way into the alpine hut. So here’s our tip: keep doors closed and store food safely. 😉And another tip for nature-loving night owls: dormice sometimes find their way near the alpine pasture too. There are nights when these little critters are quite active – you can hear them pottering about, rustling and scampering. If you’re a light sleeper, it’s best to bring earplugs. |
| + Completely self-sufficient: Since summer 2021, the Talsenalm has been generating its own electricity from solar power for the first time. Appreciation for this precious resource is growing rapidly, as electricity must be used sparingly. The water flows from the hut’s own spring. | - Getting there: The Talsenhütte is accessible via a four-kilometre-long forest and mountain road. It takes a bit of getting used to at first and is quite an adventure. By the end of the holiday week, you’ve usually got used to the unpaved road. |
